With over ten million paintballers in the United States alone, and providing an adrenaline rush for all its enthusiasts, paintball is proving to be one of the most popular sports of it's time.

The basic objective of the game is to mark opponents with a paintball fired from a paint gun thus eliminating them from the game.

Bonus moves such as "claiming the opposing team's flag" or "eliminating the General" are additional objectives of the game although the rules of a particular game can be tailor made to the group, ensuring maximum enjoyment whilst observing clearly laid down safety rules.

The most popular of paintball games include Woodsball, Scenario and Tourneyball/Speedball.

Paintball requires specific equipment in order to participate in the game. Items such as a paintball gun or marker, paintballs themselves which are used as ammunition fired from the gun, and a face mask providing protection for the eyes are all essential pieces of kit.

With a muzzle velocity value of up to 300 ft/s, paintball markers or guns are usually compressed air powered guns, designed to successfully "fire" paintballs, permitting handlers to mark their opposing team members.

They are sufficient to enable the paintball to burst on impact but do not cause any injury to skin on contact.

The Nelspot 007 which is an agricultural gun made by the Nelson Paint Company used in the Forestry Service for marking cattle and trees at a distance, was one of the earlier models used in the 80's by Hayes Noel and Bob Gurnsey, two of the first paintball players to put the game on the map.
