Although the very popular sport of paintball, often referred to as "war games", is sometimes seen to be dangerous, the introduction of the use of safety equipment has successfully decreased the risk of injury.

The main aim of the game is to mark your opponents with paintballs which are propelled from paintball markers or guns. Once a player is marked, he/she is eliminated from the game.

Taking possession of the opposing team's flag or marking the other team's "General" are additional objectives of the game.
